Questions You May Be Asking

We understand that reaching out for support is a big step. Here are answers to some of the most common questions.

How do we know if counseling is right for us?

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from counseling.  Many couples seek help because they feel emotionally disconnected, struggle to communicate, or want to strengthen their relationship before problems become overwhelming.  Others come after experiencing betrayal, repeated conflict, or major life transitions.  Counseling provides a safe, structured environment to understand what’s happening, develop healthier patterns, and begin moving toward lasting change.

At Power to Heal Relationships, we believe that healing is more than solving today’s problems—it’s about creating lasting transformation. Our counseling approach combines real-life experience, evidence-based practices, practical tools, and the Power to Heal Journey, a structured framework that helps clients move through Awareness, Insight, Choice, Practice, and Transformation. Our goal is to equip you with skills that continue strengthening your relationships long after counseling has ended.

The Power to Heal Journey is the foundation of our counseling approach. Rather than simply focusing on immediate problems, we help clients understand the deeper patterns that influence their relationships and guide them through five intentional stages of growth:

  • Awareness
  • Insight
  • Choice
  • Practice
  • Transformation

Healing is a process, and the Journey provides a practical roadmap for lasting change.

The first session is about understanding your story.  We’ll discuss your concerns, relationship history, goals, and the patterns that may be contributing to your current challenges.  Rather than assigning blame, we work together to identify opportunities for growth and begin creating a personalized plan for healing.

Yes. While rebuilding trust takes time and commitment, many couples not only recover from infidelity but develop stronger, healthier relationships than they had before.  Healing involves honesty, accountability, emotional safety, improved communication, and addressing the deeper issues that contributed to the betrayal.  Every couple’s journey is unique, but restoration is possible.

This is more common than many people realize. While counseling is most effective when both partners participate, meaningful change can still begin with one person. As one partner develops healthier communication, emotional regulation, and relationship skills, the relationship often begins to change as well. Sometimes individual growth becomes the catalyst for relational growth.
Yes. Lasting change happens through consistent practice, not just conversation. Clients may receive worksheets, reflection questions, communication exercises, relationship-building activities, or practical homework designed to reinforce what we discuss during our sessions. These tools help transform insight into everyday habits.

Faith is an important part of my life and naturally influences my perspective. For clients who desire faith-based counseling, I am happy to incorporate biblical principles into our work together. For those who prefer a clinically focused approach, I provide counseling that respects each person’s beliefs, values, and goals. Every client is welcomed with compassion, dignity, and respect.

My role is not to make decisions for you but to help you gain the clarity, insight, and skills needed to make healthy decisions for yourselves. Together, we’ll explore your relationship patterns, strengthen communication, address underlying issues, and work toward your goals. Whether the outcome is reconciliation, renewed commitment, or a healthy transition, my priority is helping each person heal and grow.

Once you reach out, we’ll guide you through each step of the process. You’ll receive information about scheduling, complete your secure online intake paperwork, and we’ll answer any questions you may have before your first appointment. Our goal is to make getting started as simple and comfortable as possible, so you can focus on what matters most—beginning your journey toward healing.
